The Buddha teaches that all things are without a self (anatta). When something is impermanent and therefore subject to change, such as are all conditioned things, then there can be no supreme being, a self or being a soul (that remains forever and ever, so is immutable). It would go against the true nature of nature. Neither outside of us nor within us, is a supreme being or a self or a soul that is the master of our body whether our mind is. Only a Buddha teaches such a Teaching. The Buddha expounded his Teaching on not-self the Anatta Lakkhana Sutta (The characters of not-self) for the five monks at Isipatana.
