After he gave up both extremes, namely the luxurious life of a prince and a life of self-torture, the Bodhisatta chose the Middle Way (Majjhima Patipada) the way of moderation. This path is based on virtue (sila), concentration (samadhi) and wisdom (pañña). True wisdom (samma pañña) leads to a very deep analysis of all mental and physical phenomena. Then this analysis leads to a complete understanding of all things through which one can see things as they really are (yathabhuta).
Sitting under the Bodhi tree at Uruvela he attained Perfect Enlightenment (Samma Sambodhi) and thereby became the Fully Enlightened One (Samma Sambuddha).
